The CISH International Prize for History 2026 was awarded in Rome
Professor Anthony Grafton of Princeton University received the 2026 International Prize for History at a public ceremony in Rome, held during the conference Un secolo di storiografia italiana e il CISH nel centenario della sua fondazione, 1926–2026.
As author and editor of 43 books, more than 200 articles and book chapters, Grafton is one of the most prominent historians of our time. Former Secretary General of CISH, Edoardo Tortarolo, underlined in his laudation that Grafton has transformed our understanding of humanism, erudition, books, science, magic, and historical method. In recognition of his service to students, colleagues, and the international community of scholars — and of the intellectual generosity with which he has inspired generations of historians — the CISH Board is honoured to recognize his contributions to historical scholarship with this award.
